CREDITS

Credits for ‘The Vine’

Johnny Parry arranged all of the strings on the album, as well as some French horn and backing vocals. He also played piano as well as other bits and pieces, and sometimes recorded in his own Wolfy Studios when we were unable to record at Strawhouse. ‘The Vine’ was very much a collaboration between Johnny and I, with the vocal, guitar and strings being the central voices and vision of the piece. Johnny’s arrangements gave landscape and dimension to the songs that would not have been there otherwise. This truly is Johnny’s record as much as it is mine.

Rowland Prytherch mixed the album. This was no simple feat, having to go backwards and forwards over the years and also match the sounds of some of the tracks that had been previously worked on by me. Most of my vocals had been hastily recorded as guide vocals, some with microphones not really fit for the job. So, amongst all sorts of other sonic gymnastics, there was quite a bit of work needed there to match the vocal sounds. Rowland did such a beautiful job with the mix, I’m not sure how I would have been able to complete the record without his endless patience and care and skill.

Joern Schlueter played electric guitar and added many other sprinkles of fairy dust to some of the tracks, recording them in his own studio. I can send any piece of music to Joern and know that whatever he adds to it will enhance the recording beyond measure.

And all of the other brilliant players, who shaped the sound so perfectly with their virtuosity:

Fe Salomon sang backing vocals

Barney Morse-Brown played cellos

Jane Griffiths played violins and violas

Anne-Marie Kirby played violins and violas

Edwin Ireland played double bass and cellos

Catherine Knight played French horns

The album was mastered by Simon Heyworth and Bill Sellar at Super Audio Mastering (SAM)
